The TBRHS is a non-profit, volunteer run organization dedicated to preserving railway history within the boundries of the City of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. We fulfill our mission through the preservation of historical artifacts and educating the public.

Current Projects

Canadian National Railway Caboose 78175

CNR Caboose 78175 was built in Canadian National's Transcona (Winnipeg, MB) shops in 1929. It was one of 25 standard cabooses built in the series numbered from 78170 to 78194. It is currently located in Prince Arthur's Landing in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada.

On July 1, 2016, we took ownership of the caboose from the City of Thunder Bay. We are currently restoring the exterior. Updates and current photos are posted on our Facebook group on a regular basis. If you would like to get involved with helping to restore the caboose, please email us.

The "VIA Train"

The "VIA" Train is currently located in the Kam River Heritage Park in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. The train consists of equipment that was built for the Canadian National Railways in 1954. The equipment was transferred to VIA Rail in 1978. They continued their career with VIA Rail until the early 1990s when they were retired and eventually put on display. The equipment consists of FP9A locomotive 6510, Coach 5458, Cafe-Lounge 753 and Sleeper Estcourt.

We are actively evaluating our options for restoring this complete train.

The TBRHS has an open membership policy. We need volunteers to help with our objectives. We have some ambitious, and costly projects in the works. Donations of any amount would be greatly appreciated. All money collected through donations and memberships goes directly to pay for artifact restoration, insurance and administering the TBRHS. We are a registered charity with Revenue Canada and will issue tax receipts for donations of $25 or more. Thanks!
